Despite having other projects on the go I find myself with another pesky Kona landing in my lap!

This popped up on the 'bay a few days ago and I managed to strike a sneaky deal. It's not the tidiest perhaps but set me back less than 40 bucks all in. I also seem to be only using one bike as a work hack right now, so it will be nice to use something else for a change.

Here it is at the moment, I'm not faffing about with a full on repaint as I like it's worn-ness (is that a word?). It will be cleaned and touched up though, the chainstay in particular needs some love but a good poke with a screwdriver suggests it's only cosmetic. I'm just waiting to receive the touch up stuff to sort that and I'll crack on :)

Son of a gun! I wondered where it had gone ...

Yep, I couldn't resist having a sly shot at this one - I was at the end of what was a bit of a crap day at work so needed a pick me up

Thanks for the comments all - I too am looking forward to riding it having owned a 631 Kilauea frame of the same vintage in the past. I've already all the parts at hand for a change as well - I've just got to remove them from the other bike first. It's basically going to be a fast 1x8 type of setup. I could just push on and leave the frame cleanup I suppose.. must be patient.. The offer of flowers could be a winner though Kaz!

Re:

Another week or so in and progress is slow, all the parts are ready and waiting but I'm struggling to find an accurate paint colour...hopefully a trip around the Halfords car section tomorrow will cure that :)

In the meantime I've managed to clean up the frame a fair bit and remove most of the rust on the chain stay which looked a bit scary. I tried out some Rust Eater (Phosphoric Acid) for the first time and it's done a good job, I'm now up to this stage with a couple of treatments:
