Unfashionable build alert.
Stripped, rebuilt and upgraded with:
Shimano st-ef50-7 shifters (V brake version)
Shimano M600 front Cantilevers (nothing wrong with the Tektro originals though)
Shimano Exage 500 LX rear derailleur (1992)
Shimano HG70 7 speed cassette (1992)
Shimano 400CX chainset 42/32/24 (1993) with gold Talon 24T in place of the original 20T. The chainset is new and is a very rare item with a surprisingly high quality finish.
New KMC chain.
Everything else is original. The saddle in the pics has been discarded because it is so uncomfortable.
What I like about it:- colour, geometry/stance, contoured steel tubing almost mimicking what Cannondale were doing at the time, not overly heavy like other Max variants, low key graphics, high front end, original tyres still good, top pull FD.
Dislikes:- front and rear mudguard attachment clashes with the V brakes, cheap hubs (same for the Max 2 & 3 though), solid rear axle.
Don't need it, but I can't bring myself to get rid of it - it really is quite a looker and rides well, plus it has a Selle Freccia saddle on it now which is very comfortable.
