1997 GT Zaskar advice

Hi there, long time reader, 2nd time poster. I have always loved the chrome GT Zaskar and I managed to find a superb 1997 Zaskar last October. It is full XT apart from the Midluburn crankset. It has also had Rock Shox SIDs added.

I have a couple of questions which I hope somebody can help with. I was wondering if the straight Ritchey ForceLite bars were the original bars, if not, does anybody know? Here is a little piccie so you know what I am talking about.

I like everything else on it but just not sure about those bars and the Yeti grips! Do people tend to put Onza grips and bar-ends on Zaskars, as I was thinking about this as an option too?

I also need some new jockey wheels, and was thinking of getting some pimpy red ones? Does anyone know where I might be able to get these?

All the best!

If you want it more correct, change the decals to the correct ones.
The bars on 97 Zaskar (LE?) was like the LTS 1 a Azonic World Force.
I still have one left.

What is the framenumber, I don't think it's a 97-er, but a later model, a 98 or 99. And Martin and I did some research and come out on the 98 model.

Cheers for the pointers. LTS Biker - the frame number is 09972193 from what I have read on other posts, I am guessing it is a 1997 model from that. I didn't think the decals were the right ones so I will have a look on the archives.

Is Gill_M still the man for decals?

I will see if I can find a pic of the Azonic bar you mention. Is your spare for sale?

I don't think this is a 97, not with these drops. 99 probably...first year for those style dropouts?...just a guess. 8)

Either way, I'd ride just the way it is. 8)

The serial number indicates the year is was made. Most frames are made in the last part of a year before the model year
Ehmm..

It's a september 1997 made frame, but the frame is made for the 1998 year. The dropouts and headtube are the 1998 model as well as the integrated seatpost clamp.
The 97 has a separate seatpostclamp and the normal dropouts. The headtube is staight and this one has the CNC lines on the bottom and top.
My 97 LTS has a 96 framenumber. Also made in the last part of the year.

Cheers LTS biker, that is interesting to know. I am pleased it is a 1997 model. I will look around for the Azonic handlebar you mentioned before.
