For sale is my rare 1996 Kona Koa in deep satin red. This is a 19inch Race Light aluminium frame. The only reason for sale is I’m building a new bike and just havn’t got the room, so unfortunately this old school classic has to go. Condition is pretty good overall, with the usual cosmetic chips and scratches you would expect on an enjoyed 14 year old mountain bike (see pics) – it has no dents or dings though and I’ve always felt that it would be a shame to respray. That original paint has got a lovely deep glow to it you just don’t seem to get on newer bikes (certainly not Konas anymore) anyway, horses for courses and a new coat of paint with new decals would def make it look shiny and new..
I replaced the crankset last year with a Deore Hollowtech, and this has given it a new lease of life, it goes like a rocket and feels very light and responsive.. it has a very similar geometry to all the pre-2000 Konas, but benefits from a much lighter frame; so the best of both worlds. These early aluminium bikes are quite sought after so get yourself something that could be easily fully restored to original condition, or used as it is as a great fast xc / commuter.

Wheels – Mavic 238 on rear, Mavic 317 on front (both shimano hubs)
Deore XT V-brakes with XT levers (some scratching on front of levers)
Rob Warner Base Jump pedals
STX rear mech
Rapid fire shifters (ok, I’ve always though they were XT, but again could be STX as they only say Shimano – any knowledge would be appreciated)
Brooks saddle (it looks a bit like it comes off a bread bike, but is easily the most comfortable saddle ever!)
X-lite bars w/white BMX style OMA grips

I am looking for £200 ono and would much prefer cash on local pick-up as I have never tried to post a bike before - also I think it’s always best for prospective buyers to see before buying. I am based in London..
