now has an M739 XT rear mech to match the front, and avid SD5 brake levers. all of which goes together to look LOADS better

got hold of some M738 XT hubs on Mavic X221 rims. very close to OE spec for this bike, so on they went. wasnt really feeling the crossrides anymore

oh and pretty much bob-on 24lb, which disappointed me slightly. i thought it felt lighter

Well at least it feels light, so that’s half the battle. As I’m a Kilauea owner myself, I entered your spec into my spreadsheet and I came to exactly 24lbs! And as it weighed 24.8 when it was new, 24 is nothing to be concerned about IMO.

Assuming it’s the same as a 97, your size 18 frame should weigh 4.3lbs, which is pretty light and a good start towards 22ishness. If it’s any help, my 97 is lighter in the wheels, tubes (but I know light ones aren’t to everyone’s tastes), cassette, pedals, brakes, saddle and stem, and it weighs just under 24 with a Z2, so it would be c22 if I put the P2 back on it.

Basically the frame is within 0.1lb of the weight of the lightest Explosifs they ever made, so for me it’s plenty light enough and it’s just up to us what kind of bike we want to make out of it. I used to have mine over a pound lighter with SIDs, but I actually think it’s a faster bike with Z2s so maybe I’ve given up being a weight weenie.

thou shalt not covet they neighbour's brake levers....
