Retro Newbie
Hi all,

First time post on Retrobike - but have drawn a lot of inspiration from here.

My childhood rebuild was brought to modern day specs and is now 99% complete. The specs looks as follows:

Frame: 1996 GT LTS-3 Never built up before this. The swingarm has been modified to have a disc mount (thanks to GripSport in Melbourne, Victoria)
Rear shock - Fox Float RP2 with Propedal (140mm e-to-e)
Headset: Tioga
Fork: RST F1rst Platinum RL
Cranks: Truactiv Stylo with external BB
Cassette: SRAM PC990
Shifters: Front - XTR M960 dual controls, Rear - XT M775 dual controls
Rims: Easton XC One with Schwalbe Rocket Rons 2.1s
Brakes: Front - XT M775, Rear - XT M775 (mounted on courtesy of GripSport. Thank you Jon!)
Pedals: XT
Stem: Easton EA50
Seatpost: FSA FR200
Handlebar: Specialized Carbon flat bars
Saddle: Fizik Tundra
Weight: 11.3kgs

Last few changes will be:
- Stem
- Seatpost
- BETD bearing kit for the pivot points (to get rid of the bushings)

Should bring it down to 11kgs exact - and that will be it!

Next project will be a 1989 GT Tequesta :)

cool, retro with a modern twist. nice to have some disc tabs on it. how does it ride with the pro pedal shock? would have to be a lot better than the original fox air shock. i look forward to seeing your tequesta!

Thanks Merckx :)

It rides a lot more plush with the Fox RP2. The fact that it is switchable to Propedal, means that it can be transformed quite quickly - giving a very hardtail feel. The original Rock shox coupe was terrible - too much spring/rebound for my liking.

As a comparison - I ride a '09 Giant Anthem X0 and the GT is not very far behind. If anything, the GT is plusher given the wonderful Horst-link design on the rough stuff, but does suffer a bit of suspension bob (with Propedal off) on climbs. The Maestro/DW-Link design on the Anthem makes it an absolute weapon on climbs and shows where dual suspension has really advanced...

The Tequesta I have sitting in the garage will be kept original - have some Mavic 217 SUPs with XTR hubs waiting to go on, STX-RC rear derailleur and Deore XT thumb-shifts, U-brake (chainstay mounted) rear brakes and Exage front brakes
