1995 Kona Explosif

Few changes…

Felt a cantilever brake set would suit the bike so have a plan of either silver M900 which I bought, tried and decided against. Then remembered I had some black LX cantis and now a happy chappy…but want Dia compe 987 in black long term.

Off came the beautiful M950 brifters. I picked up and ropey bike locally that had a lovely set of m737 brifters on it so bought that and took some parts off of it. Frame was trashed so lost to a good cause!

Lastly swapped the Easton bars to Raceface to match the crankset…and the Raceface logo was the same burgundy as the frame. Win.

Oh and I have my TB P2 turning up from being extended! These will be sprayed black.

Next is to cable up the rd and brakes, find some 987s and ride the bits off it!

Looking lovely with the black it goes really well with the frame, there's a subtlety to it 👌
Enjoy riding the bits off it and when you ever get bored of it,you know who'll buy the frame, woohoo over here 👋 😂🤣

You are always on my mind! Wanted the black to make the frame Kulla more prominent as it’s a stunning colour even though it’s very subtle

Yeah that's what i like about it,the frame has become the main feature where your drawn to that straight away and then your eye gets drawn to the other parts, it's also good that the forks are black aswell because another colour would take your eye off the frame.

Update on the bike.

So the bulkiness of the thompson stem really bugged me against the thinner tubes so I went all in on the raceface gear. Seatpost found but the set back one, when I was looking for the straight, a 90mm stem, carbon risers and a headset. Headset didn’t have the crown race but found one by looking at pictures online that fitted…unbelievably.

Sprayed the P2 tb forks and now have them oinstalled. I do actually think they reduce the harshness of the ride. Will do a back to back with the heavier ones soon. Also sprayed the front canti guide and rear canti collar black.

Most importantly I found a colour coded water bottle.

Knew I wasn’t going to like it with that seatpost…so that’s about to change. Also still looking for black 987 cantis….please.

So ended up looking like this below, and is the best rigid bike I’ve ridden, without a doubt.
