1994 Stumpjumper with one problem (?)

The brake... is it replaceable or is it one of those that are "permanent"?

The stud doesn't unscrew, so it's little bit more complicated

It's a steel frame so if they don't bolt in you can take it to a bike builder and they can weld on a new one.

try get some rockshocks canti studs, they are thinner in the thread part compared to the ones on amazon, you may be able to tap a thread into the frame...

There are brake studs available that can be tightened with a nut from the back side. If you drill out the old stud, you can just use one of those.

I had one of these go like this on a fork.

I smoothed it back to the spring holes and used a brass bushing in place of the original mount. I then used a much longer bolt to keep the brake in place with a nut to keep it captive behind.

Its still in use some 7-8 years on as far as I'm aware.

But if you take it to a frame builder, much less faffing.

Well, it looks to me that whichever way I go, the frame will have to be repainted.

I picked up the entire bike for $100 and it looks like everything is original except the wheels. So maybe not too bad...

I'm in the US, I've mentioned before... I find/get more help here regarding DIY projects... which is much appreciated.
