Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

he's a roadie by nature, and still is

… only recently lured to the dark side by RMs, and the darkness continues.

Sooo... A while ago I decided that I would ONLY buy "Rocky Mountain" brand Mountain Bikes... otherwise I would end up with WAY too many... But... After realizing how nice Titanium bikes are I decided that the only non-Rocky Mountain bikes I would add to my collection are Titanium ones... so... First was an 89 Merlin, second is this one, and third is my Nukeproof...

...and one Colnago Sport?

... and 20 other road bikes... hahaha I have a problem... I went a little wild with road bikes so I decided to limit my mountain bikes to one brand :D

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

Ok, so... I've narrowed it down to some possibilities... Would be great to get some suggestions :D

Many of these parts will need to be sourced out but some are in stock:

FORK:
- PACE RC30
- Tange Switchblade
- Project 2 (this is a last resort)
- Marzocchi Bomber (deep metallic blue)

STEM:
- Syncros gray threadless
- Syncros black threadless

BAR:
- Ti Kona Race Lite
- Blue RACE FACE (Thanks again to ChickenBall, this bar is Awesome!)

SHIFTERS/BRAKES/LEVERS/MECH's/HUBS
- M900 (w/ canti's)
- M950 (w/ V's)

CRANK:
- Race Face Turbine Blue anno
- Race Face Turbone Black
- M900
- M950

SEATPOST
- Syncros Black
- Syncros Ti
- Thomson Black

HEADSET
- CK Ti colour
- CK Black
- CK Blue

DECALS
- If I go all black/silver/Ti then the graphics would be silver/black
- It I go blue then blue graphics

Any suggestions would be much appreciated =)

Here a couple snapshots of a bar/stem option

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

that Syncros stem/bar combo looks good.

I'm almost finished with my '94 Hei Hei built and went a little more modern with a RS SID fork and Extralite V-brakes.

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

That's a beautiful stem/bar combo, I think this will end up looking great.

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

Thanks to both of you! The stem looks like a closer match in the pic then it actually is but it's still pretty close

That leads to the question... m950 or M900?

I think m950 would suit in terms of colour... ?

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

m950 certainly looks sweet on any brushed ti frame, but m900 is 'period correct', if that concerns you.

It looks like the frame doesn't have a canti stop, so the v-brakes wouldn't look odd off the back end. If you go with m950, I'd pick a fork from about the mid-1990s to match. Maybe a nice marz Z2 in 63 or 80mm?

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

The frame doesn't have a stop because it would have had a dog collar. I was going to suggest maybe you try control tech and ritchey for a bit more of an American theme, but you have so much syncros stuff and that stem is quite beautiful, but it might be good to go with a black stem and black seatpost. I think black rims and a black crank would wrap it up into a neat little package with m950.

Re: 1994 KONA Hei Hei - Titanium Build - Suggestions??

Thanks! I think M950 would be the way to go, but I will have to do something to the cable... If use the housing stop at the front then I need something near the rear to go back from bare cable to housing again to work with V-Brakes... Suggestions??

I can't decide between All black or all gray...

If I go the blue route here's the fork I would use (It came on my 89'merlin pictured below)
