1993 Trek 820 touring conversion

Just to show my wife's '93 Trek 820 and how good early mtb's are as touring conversions. Bought the bike used for 40 EUR to be her commuter bike (hence the step-through frame). But when planning a long trip in South America, we wanted a reliable bike that we could also leave behind at the end (I hate paying airplane fees and the stress of last minute packing). So I did a deep bike overhaul, changed the drivetrain to 3x8 with lower gearing, swapped both wheels for heavy duty ones (she is a known wheel destroyer), mounted quality racks and added a bunch of touring related accesories.

This is the result:

Correct! I pull a two seater trailer where the other one travels, sometimes both if tired or in bad weather... 😥Check my Scott Windriver post for a picture!
