1993 Trek 7000

Got this 1993 Trek 7000. Not the fanciest bike in the world, or even the 1993 Trek catalogue, but I haven't ridden rigid for a long time and it's mostly complete, original and has an Easton frame.

Can anyone help with the seatpost size? I thought 27.2mm but it seems too loose and won't tighten. Seat and seatpost both missing when I got the bike.

The 1993 Trek tech catalogue says it should be 27.2 (here). But it's not that rare for the catalogue to be wrong. Are you sure it's a 1993? Maybe the seat collar is a bit loose because the previous owner forced it?

I'm pretty sure it's a 1993. Exage LT shifters, cranks and brakes, LX mechs as per the catalogue. I'll try another 27.2 seatpost and give the clamps a grease. Thanks for the link to the tech specs!

That'll be bigger than 27.2 surely? Quite a chunky frame & 27.2 is rather slim though the industry std nowadays. A good bikeshop should have a seatpost sizer, like a graduated cone with sizes marked on the insertion points.

Matrix Single Track rims. Have cleaned up very nicely, but they're a nightmare to put tyres on. Haven't been able to get a pair mounted yet. Bike has been in the workstand for about a month whilst various jobs are being done.

Hi! New here. I too have a Trek 7000 and had a very hard time getting the tires on... But I love the bike over all and I'm experimenting with it a little. I got it for free because someone put it in the trash.. Good luck with yours..

I've just acquired the same bike. Mine came with a 27.2 post in it, but it felt a bit slack. I have a few other 27.2 posts so I've been measuring them and found one which is closer to 27.3 which fits perfectly.

Thanks guys. I found that my wheels have very thick rim tape. Tyres are much easier to fit when the rim tape is off, so I might get some Velox tape and try that instead of the rubber stuff. Failing that, I'm considering getting some different wheels.

I've put mine aside for a bit as I needed to work on my other bikes but looking forward to getting back to it. I do like the bike and look forward to getting out on the trails a bit with it..Sam-White, are you going to leave the frame the original color?

Yes it's staying purple. It's a nice colour in the sunshine, doesn't look so great in my photo though. It does look a lot better now cleaned and wiped down, the shine has returned.
