1993 Orange Prestige - What do I do with it?

Hi All,

First post, so be gentle...

I have a 1993 Orange Prestige (17" with the purple-champagne paint job) and I was thinking of selling it and buying a mountain bike with new and fangled components such as suspension!

I offered it to a mate, who needs something other than his Mum's old MTB to ride round on because he keeps getting laughed at. I initially said £150, because I didn't think it was worth much, but I think I might be wrong.

Of note, it has Mavic M231 rims, Flite Ti saddle, X-Lite Ti seatpost, Deore DX-XT mix (7-speed) and, best of all, it has thumbies, not STis.

It is in reasonable condition. It has quite a few chips off the paint and the oranges on the logo have faded to white a bit.

My question to you people is this: Should I be happy flogging it to my mate for £150, or should I seek a buyer who likes his retro MTBs and appreciates the quality of the Tange Prestige tubing? Alternatively is £150 too much? Or am I just a philistine for even thinking of selling it? Probably!

You're advice and opinion would be gratefully received.

Phil, I am no expert but I recently paid £270 for a 92 Prestige. I have split it and sold most of the parts but I am hoping to achieve a similar figure for the frameset alone.

Don't want to dampen anyones spirits here but the last three Prestige frames I've seen for sale have all gone for £75 or less. One went for £40.

I could be tempted in the frame and forks. Still regret selling my old one.

If you're genuinely interested, I would be willing to sell the frame and forks alone. I stripped it down last night anyway to clean it up.

i bought thorpies frame on sat! currently building into a nice SS.
i couldnt believe how clean the frame was when i picked it up! hardly a mark at all!
i got the frame, fork, mavic headset, syncros stem and bar, xt b/b and xt v brakes and levers + cables for £120

I think you got a bargin Dom! At the time of you collecting the Prestige, a certain Kilauea was heading my way, yipee Yesterday morning some thieving scum put an end to that :cry:
