1992 Scott Montana

Zaviat

Retro Newbie
Hello everybody,
I'm new, I discovered this website yesterday.
I'm a MTB rider, I ride a 29" GT Karakoram customized and improved by myself and a 26" RockRider 9.2.

I'm owner of a 1992 Scott Montana I bought it 25 years ago.
I will try to upload pictures earlier.

I want to make some change. I want to change the :
- rear cogs, actual is 13-30, I found a 13-34.
- crank set, actual is 24 - 36 - 46

I guess it will be easy to change rear cogs.
But the problem is for crank set, I would like to put a 22-32-42, I tried with a Suntour XCM but it didn't work.

Anybody did this change ?
Thanks.

BR

Re:

Hi,

Welcome to the site, I had a 91 Montana and over the years upgraded pretty much everything except the Bio Pace Chainset! What exactly is the problem with swapping it out? I'm shure someone on here could help.

Re:

Hello.
Thanks for your welcome.
Since I m riding for years "modern" MTB I find my 92's Scott a bit obsolete regarding transmission. I would like to change the crankset in order to have 22/32/42 and for rear cogs I found a 13-34.
The problem is that the XCM's crankset I have doesn't fit well, the big ring is totally out of range for the front derailleur. I'm sure that the front derailleur is not the issue.
Maybe the problem is coming from the bottom bracket 68/123, 123 is too much. I don't know.
That's why I'm asking if anybody adapted such modern crankset to a Scott if yes how it was done.
Thanks.
