1992 Marin Team Issue project

Re:

Call from the bike shop today , they've chased the threads out for me and test fitted a bottom bracket.

All good , so once I've collected the old girl , off to the powder coaters she goes ...

I will not be beaten on this one !

Re: Uh oh ... Another project

Cheers for the link to your thread.
Looking like you've had a bit of a headache, but will be well worth it.
Interested to see what the finish comes out like

Chris

Re:

The plot thickens ...

Been to the powdercoaters , but they say that while they can fill the little dent , the skim will be so thin that it will likely 'pop' when they heat it to set the powder.

So , back to plan B. I'm going to do a zolatone recreation , dark matt grey like the zolatone of that era. I know it's a little unorthodox but I want rid of the dent and it looks like painting is the only way.

I think it will look quite good in dark grey with fluoro yellow decals , and now that my course has been set for me , I can get on with it.

There'll be more regular updates now , assuming anyone is interested , it's just been me moaning and having disasters so far !

Re: Uh oh ... Another project

Keep erm coming feller!!!
Great to see the Royce came out, shame about dent can't you fill it with some sort of metal paste filler these are so hard and can be smoothed out .

Re:

What size dent are we talking about? Wouldn't it be possible fill it with a bit of braze and file it smooth?

Fire off a message to wdpro (Peter) I seem to remember him repairing some damage to one of his frames.

Although the dark grey would look very nice the silver/chrome would look the nuts and you may regret not going the extra mile. 8)

Re:

I'm following this thread with interest as I have had this tip find nickel plated Team Issue in my shed for four years. You've given me the incentive to get around to renovating mine this winter.

Tip find ????

Why do I never have luck like that !

Re:

I was just thinking that myself !

Cook bros cranks too

People just chuck potato peelings and dead cats on the tips round my way !

I'm going to go zolatone on this guys , I can always get it powdercoated chrome at a later date or if it looks terrible. I nitromorsed ( is that a word ?) the frame today , took the lacquer off and the stickers and began sanding all the rust off.

I sprayed up a little section afterwards to get an idea of what it's going to look like , and I think it's going to look ace. ;) I was quite excited looking at this little section I did !

Re:

OK .... Zolatone ;)

Not everyone will like this , but i really do. The colour and finish is very close to my 90 Bear Valley. With the fluoro yellow decals it should look good.

So now decisions ...

M741 Silver XT headset or M735 Black XT Headset

Silver Syncros Cattleprod or Marin Roller Stem ?

I'm thinking M741 and Syncros ..... as it's not going to be original anyway.
