1992 Kona Explosif

I recently bought this 1992 explosif from the original owner. It had been sitting unused in his shed for 16 years plus.

The frame condition is exceptional with only some minor scuffs but the paint is bright and inner tubing immaculate. I have owned a 96 and 97
explosif and a multitude of Dekerfs and still own a "modernized" 96 Brodie expresso. I wasn't actually in the market for an old timer but I could not pass this up.

It has full XTR for the most part which I understand was first released in 92
and a Halson fork that will be replaced with a newer P2 and more modern stem/riser bar. The fork is in great shape other than it is essentially rigid with no give ;)

odd colour !

enjoy!

pictures too come..... my file size is apparently too large.

Welcome to the forum and looking forward to the pics :D

Thanks for the welcome raidan73 !
I seem to have reverted back to the older bikes so thought I best sign up and share :D

That could be the Explosif Pro. It was available in custom colours and M900 was an option on the model.

I recognise that Brodie, did you get it fairly recently from a chap in Victoria?

It must be - I've never seen one in that colour - amazing! Got the ribbed downtube as well. Very, very nice.

Thanks guys! I feel fortunate to have found this old Kona.
The Brodie was in fact bought from a fellow in Victoria awhile back (think his other expresso surfaced on this site?)

Seems my expresso built up weighs about half what the explosif does

Finally some updates on this "build."

A friend supplied me with a stock Kona P2 from his 1993 Kona Hot so I was able to discard that
heinous Halson fork and I pilfered and installed the velocity stem and Kona bars from my stock 1995 explosif as I like the more slender appearance of this later stem. Since buying this excellent condition 20" 92 explosif pro,
I somehow have managed to buy a complete stock 1999 18" Explosif (excellent) and a 1995 19" Explosif (also excellent condition) and a beat up but workable 1992 19" regular Kona explosif . Pictures
would help but I have struggled due to size restrictions and subsequently my own limitations ;)
Soon ! The 96 Brodie expresso frame went to a new home also. Oh, also bought a stock and semi mint 1995 Kona Cinder Cone for a friend for $50 :)

With the XTR crank and deore XT pedals .....the fork has yet to be cut down...must have come off a LARGE frame
