1992 Kona Explosif splatter paint project - update..

Hi all, Just finished this today. It’s been built partly from bits I had, with other parts from eBay and Gumtree.
So, I bought a small 1998 Specialized Rockhopper frame a while back to build with, and for, my 10 year old daughter. That frame came with a pair of quite nice Ritchey Rock comp wheels in black and I thought ‘I’ll keep them for something a bit special later on’. Well browsing eBay on holiday and up pops this powder coated Kona frame with the LX derailleurs on it, buy it now, pick it up on the way home..
Stripped it right down and decided to do a splatter paint job beens the original paint is long gone anyway..
I got the BAM Z2 forks off eBay, Club Roost stem/grips and bars too, Club Roost pedals and FSA pig headset came off the GT Karakoram I found on Gumtree, got some ST-M567 shifter/brakes to match the derailleurs and the v-brakes off the GT. Tyres were off an old Muddy Fox I sold a while back, nice 26x2.0 gumwalls with knobbly tread.
It rides beautifully, so light and feels planted, couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!
All in, I’ve spent around £300, not including the few bits I already had and fitted to it. I reckon that’s pretty good value for money, should give me many miles of fun and fitness!

Re:

Just wanted to update this thread, I’ve changed a few things up since I first built it.
The bike ended up on a set of Hope/Mavic wheels but they went on my Sunn along with the Bombers. Various other bits were subsequently ‘borrowed’ from it until it ended up pretty much a bare frame on the floor.. so sad.
Anyway, I found a set of threaded P2 forks on eBay locally and collected them, resprayed them black along with some Marin bars and a stem. Rebuilt it all back up today with some XT parts I’ve been saving and some Halo tyres which came on a bike I also collected today.
It’s come together really well, just the sort of fat tyre’d beach cruiser look I was looking for, not one for the purists but it’s given it a new lease of life and made me smile.
I’ll stick some more pics up and a spec list once I’ve had a chance to ride it a bit.
