Just to show my '91 Scott Windriver, and how good early mtb's are as touring conversions. Bought the bike used for 75 EUR to leave it at my in-laws whenever we visit. But when planning a long trip in South America, I wanted a reliable bike that I could also leave behind at the end (I hate paying airplane fees and the stress of last minute packing). So I did a deep bike overhaul, changed the drivetrain to 3x8 with lower gearing, swapped the rear wheel for a heavy duty one (and 135mm spaced instead of the original 130mm), mounted quality racks and added a bunch of touring related accesories.
