The bike shop up the road from my work sells only electric bicycles "the future" and also random horrible "jump" bikes. Oversize aluminium with chrome plated forks that rust in the nearest sign of rain. Anyway, they have a bicycle "scrapage" scheme where they have equally tangy bikes for sale, in 6 years never seen one I'd remotally use.

Then I saw this on Monday. Real beauty. Owner was sound, said he just wanted to get rid of it so it wasn't an expensive purchase, so my kili has a brother and my wife has a bike if she joins me. Although really I will just be using it most of the time. In my size as well.

It is 100% original, tyres, wheel, even colour co-ordinated reflectors! Original wheels everything. Awesome saracen seatpost and saddle.

It is in good mechanical condition although not sure how recently it has been used as it seems that it has been literally dipped in oil, i've never seen so much oil on a drivetrain - covered my hands just taking the wheels on and off.

The plan is just to use it, although the reflectors and mudgaurds will go. Will also change the grips as they are tired. Reckon it will take me the best part of a day to clean.

Welcome to the 1991 Trekker Hydrotech Club  Looks great what size is it 18" ? , I have just been cleaning mine ready for Mayhem.

Have you ridden it yet ? Its a strange old ride, short frame and long stem and unique under braking at speed downhill

Look forward to seeing it fettled and cleaned.

Do believe it is an 18" but haven't measured it.

Gravymonster:

My first bike was a trekker (steel) second hand, which was the u brake on the seatstays version (1989). So expecting a similar sort of ride style, which is like you suggest. From pottling around up the road and back a few hundred metres it did feel odd but that's because I haven't ridden anything remotely like this for 10 years of so. My retro bikes have been older around 1997 with sloping top tubes, konas, small GT etc.

My kili is a great project but am equally as excited with this as just needs a clean and a few bits hopefully and we'll be away.

Set your camera to 'close-up' mode and take some decent photos in the daylight. Much too nice a bike to be all out of focus.

Unless of course it's just my eyes...?

I think that us Saracen owners definitely have the entire 1991 range covered now. 8)

Yeah apologies, it was late last night and the camera battery was dead so I just took a few quick pics and posted them up. Did press the focus button and the battery died so left it as is.

Will get some before and after close ups when cleaning it this weekend or thurs if work permits.
