I don't make elastomers for the Flexstem. I did buy some skateboard truck elastomers to make a mould from but as far as I know people just use those to replace the original. I should check it out on my Flexstem at some point.

Wrap a piece of inner tube around the shaft a bunch of times, then hold it in place with zip ties

I love the creative thinking behind this. Reminds of a friend with a busted rear shock on a Specialised and no money who replaced it with a thick piece of wooden curtain rail to create a hard tail.

Out of curiosity to the folk that have made and fitted those elastomers, do you use silicone grease to fit those elastomers as standard grease may be detrimental to the compound they are made from?

Never use any standard grease on elastomers. Always use silicone fat or silicone oil. If the silicone fat is too thick, mix em together and use the silicone oil as thinner...

Yes, sometimes you got to be honest with yourself taking on too many things, its too easy to start another bike project I find then realise how much time, money it takes up. Hopefully someone else can take up this opportunity.
