1991 Marin Sausalito (Hybrid/City bike)

Re:

Quick update after another fettle today.. dust-over with hammerite and fresh decals from Gil. Think I might need to buy some helicopter tape to layer up over the decals, don't think laquer would work - and don't want them scratching off.

Re:

A lot more fettling to go but I thought I'd just plonk the main bits together and see how it's looking so far.

Helecopter tape works up well carefully cut to oversize the decals and looks damn close to the originals - and seems pretty sticky too so it's all good - I've swapped to a modern charge scoop saddle - just to add to my "crimes against originality"

Finished off the cabling, just fettling and details to do - but she rides again....

Well - It's been nearly 4 years since this bike left my stable, and now it's come back to me

Unfortunately it looks like its been somewhere that's a bit damp, the saddle and tyres I brought are gone, seatpost was hard to free up. and bottom bracket crunchy and full of rust. Paint and decals look very tatty now.

I'm going to treat it to a powder coat and some new bits :) Going flouroscent Yellow for forks/stem/bar and matt grey for the frame.. watch this space.

Re:

I see a Marin Sausalito locally that is 100% neon yellow. It just glows. Probably an earlier model than yours.

Re:

I'm not sure what year marin started making the hybrids, I've spotted this lary on here as potentially a 1990-ish version sold outside the UK:

Never seen a 100% yellow one though but I guess paintjobs may well have varied across the world

Re:

My new colour scheme is going to be pretty much the same as the 1992 Marin Stinson

Waiting for the powder coating man...

Re:

I really want a retro hybrid but always seem to miss out on them. Never seems to be many about - they probably didn’t sell well in the UK.
