1991 kona lavadome

I have been building my brother a college bike recently out of all the primo parts i had in my spares drawer...It started with me acquiring a cheap frame off here, which was a old kona lavadome in 19 inch size for £30 posted it was just the kinda price i aim at!!

anyway the spec is as follows

forks are manitou 4's which I snapped up for £30 a while ago..I bought a new old stock 1.1/8 steerer and some fork boots from the us and gave the forks a bit of a service whilst i was putting them together/sawing the steerer to the right size.

headset is a tioga avenger

brakes are ritchey logic cantilever brakes with levers..another bargain buy for £20

rims are mavic m231 with deore dx front hub and xt rear

cassette is a low range shimano cassette suited to the road..where i expect this bike will spend most it's time.

seat post is x-lite..another bargain at £5

saddle is a flite titanium bought for a fiver also, which i recovered

stem is a ringle which i bought off here for £18

handlebar is an old clubroost i got in a job lot

shifters are sram x-7 at the moment, these were given to me..but they are not really in keeping with the build and i am not sure how 7 speed friendly they are having never used them.

that is it for now...

Very nice, budget builds are so satisfying.

Thinking about the same forks for my Cinder Cone, are they easy to service?

forks

yeah, pretty easy once you get them apart..you just need to get some new elastomers..there is a link somewhere on this site..the ones in my forks were ok so i just regreased them..

That's a bit too nice for a college bike

I'd be after an Emmelle beater with paint splattered all over it :D
