no problems! yeah i will send you a PM

the top tube ones look like this:

tyres? well yeah, some knobbies would be nice :D i use modern maxxis or kenda folders myself, great grip, very light, relatively inexpensive and easy to find, important to me for such a consumable item..

Me too

I got something similar in the garage, the first series Zaskar with Manitou Mk1's (although with a Mk2 crown). I did have the first Mk1's but a friend borrowed them and then disappeared. I had Judy's on there for a while but feels nice to go back to the 'rigid' 0.75in travel Manitous! :) Also had the first Hope hubs and they're still going strong. Even still have the same Suntour XC front mech, cranks and brakes.

Used to race it when I lived in Cornwall in the early 90's and polished it to a mirror finish after every race. Kinda therapeutic.

Loving the Conti Baja tyres you had on btw.

Here the only pic I have on the computer. Long story but you get a few glimpses of bike in there. Apologies for the slicks. I'll see if I can post a few better pics this weekend.

Back in the day those Bajas were the coolest tyre IMO. Went through 3 sets I think before they were discontinued.

Felt like xmas today as all my replacement parts turned up in the post :D

Starting the rebuild tmrw. Can you have TOO much polished metal ??? This build will see.... !

it makes me smile to see the retro bug bite another person!....you are doing a great job!....keep polishing and fettling until it is finished and you will have a bike that will mean more to you than anything you will buy new....now i have seen pics i would suggest you keep it rigid, the 3d forks are rare, original and carachterful.....good work!.... :D

definitely a bug ! Wasn't aware the 3D forks were rare or sought after, and to be honest I can't think why this would be the case I was never a fan of them even when the bike was new. I always wanted, but could never (on glass collector wages) afford these........ :D

plus I always wanted, and for the same above reason never got, one of these (found on ebay last week)

and this.....

I wanted the XT crank, but had to settle for the LX black version. A little Nitromors and Silvo has produced this..... which sets off the PACE wheel nicely and is a pretty good substitute IMO

so once you get that stuff out of the can, you just can't stop

New cables, chrome handlebars, grips, polished ally seat post/clamp, and new seat finish off the parts list but not much point in photographing those. The fly in the ointment is those V Brakes. I'm on the look out for some nice XT ones, but been outbid on 3x sets so far..... maybe I'll strip and poilsh these

Total spend : £150.00 which all things considered is not too bad I think, especially since I had some cash sat in my PayPal account doing nothing.

next pics will be of the finished bike, ready for a charity ride. :?

As a fellow Zaskar owner I am looking forward to seeing the finished article.

The reason any item is rare is because they either broke a lot or never sold in any quantity. I remember the Manitou's being regarded as THE fork to have, but only the mega serious or uber rich cyclists could afford them, so I guess they are rare now, because they just didn't sell well back then, at least, not in the UK.

too true. You could even buy a Zaskar XT with them fitted at source IIRC for around £1600.00

I bought these for £50.00 last week

Needs a clean...

Loving the Manitous, here's what mine looks like. Has been sat in the garage for a few years so needs a bit of a clean though. BTW, I cut the pink Zaskar stickers by hand, kinda makes it stand out.

Good luck with the build!

Note the MK2 crown on the MK1 fork. Need to sort that. Original XC cantis though.

Original XC front mech. Mind blowing it's still working. Just. Note 90's trendy 3 colour rings.

Mavic rear mech. Not sure why I got this but it was quite pricy at the time. Bombproof though.

Original U brake. Was black once.

XT thumbies weren't original but of the era.

like the oaf that I am I bought an XT front mech for a smaller dia tube, so the LX one has to go back on.... doh.

Otherwise got cables, and seating to sort out and I'm nearly done. Plus waiting for elastomers to come through from US for forks.

Pleased with the progress so far.
