1991 GT Zaskar - barn find

I had 2 of these, blue and black...

These were 95/96/97 and are frickin rare...

I sold mine a few years ago, weirdly was fitted to my RTS build - there was a connection between GT and AC but this is way later than 91
I recognise the ribs, I have a red one , fitted to an AMP

Def not a pantera cause I'm pretty sure back in 1991 pantera wasn't even in the model range yet. Wasn't until 1996 I think when a Alu pantera was around.
1992 was the first year the Pantera AL was introduced, a Taiwanese made 7000 series heat treated aluminium frame and it was obviously an entry level model with similar spec to the GT Tequesta of that same year. It came in two colours, Silver Grey and Inferno Red (which I bought in 1993 after my '92 GT Timberline got stolen).

Enough parts sorted now to get the Zaskar cabled up and taken for it's first ride. Still parts to sort especially the wheels.

Front brake all polished up and m900 pads fitted. Better caliper bolts needed

Drivechain all working nicely. I've got an m735 rear mech on route to complete the set up. Oh, and blue chainring bolts to sort.

Control techs may be changed for some silver bars. Not quite sure yet. Stem needs painting. Also the yellow grips ???

Looking forward to taking it for a proper ride soon. Just need some decent weather.

Blue anno looks great on the polished frame

Cool, i'll have a look into that.

However, big problem.

I've got some M730 chainset, so thought lets pop a bottom bracket in and get the chainset fitted.

What previously looked like OK threads in the bb shell are in fact stripped to 12mm back on the driveside. So much so, that a bottom bracket just slides straight in. Non drive side is fine however. This may have been why the frame stripped down and forgotten about for so long.
Arghhh.

I've been having a look into solutions and came across this old post on YST Threadless bottom brackets :
http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=117049

A few question:

- Has anyone had any experience of these YST (other than those in the above thread of course)?

- Sizing. It's a 68mm shell does has anyone know the required axle length for the bb?
I tried a 113mm bb and the M730 cranks hit the frame on the non drive side and the rings are about 0.5mm away from the chainstays. I'm thinking a 122.5mm
I know the rear ends on Zaskars flare out a lot, but is putting such a wide axle in going to cause issues with chainlines or not being able to shift into the big ring?

- Are M730 cranks unusual in their fit? ie, if I were to fit some Middleburns, M900 etc would they be a similar fit?

cheers in advance
Chris
I am going get my '91 Zaskar polished very soon and yours looks great, did you use a powered polishing device or polish it by hand?
As for the bottom bracket, I have a Tange threaded BB waiting to be fitted, 68x122mm, that should be long enough.
I appreciate that the chain stays will be wider than my '92 Bravado which has the same Tange bottom bracket but shorter at 68x118 which gave me plenty clearance on the drive side, but only 2mm on the non drive side, thankfully no flex in the cranks and have never caught the chain stay.

New decals arrived today courtesy of Gil.

Really amazed how they complete transform the look of a bike.

Up next will be sourcing front brake plus front and rear mechs

Should be able to cable it all up soon as I have STI units on the way and some temporary M737 mechs I can fit in the mean time.

Proposed full spec to follow
