........Hi,

Can anyone help me with an easy way to remove the headset from my 1991 CC.

I have taken all the easy bits off but still need to removed the 'cups' (My made up term!) that are slotted into the frame. (Might need to add some pics as that might not make sense outside my head).

I know there is a tool that does this, but i dont have one, obvioulsy I dont want to damage them either in case I want to reuse them.

Any ideas? (They may not even come out fo all I know, just thought they might need to if its to be powder coated).

Thanks

Copper pipe (as in plumbing) approx 12" long - as found in most skips :D

Use as drift to hammer the your cups out. Copper takes all the damage and cups are fine. :D

Ha - nearly swore at you there coz I thought you were someone else

as above...but use an old seat post....cut it across the diameter so you have 4 slits in the end up to 3" deep....flare the ends to fit the steerer tube and you're sorted

It sounds knackered just give it to me mate in Devon aswell

Kona nut me sorry

Look forward to seeing it built

gentle taps with a hammer and flat wide screwdriver inserted into the tube and onto the cup edge bit, tap oneside tap the other and out it pops simple simple, cups and frame are steel and we are talking gentle taps so no chance of damage, was told this by a guy in a bike shop when i talked about buying a headset remover tool
