They work fine with Araya rims, but they tend to ave a very flat low profile. The disks were certainly around pre 1990 so were probably designed to fit them I guess.

I've got a RM17 with a shimano hub/cassette but being a Suntour newbie I haven't a clue if it'll work together but pretty sure the disc covers would mount ok on it.

they were the norm back then! but I know what you mean. the first set of wide risers on my GT were a revelation
