Retro Newbie
Hi there, I'm in the US and have this wonderful bike that I truly love even though it is way too large for me. I bought a new bike (Trek) last week and want to sell this one. How might I convince the potential new owner that this is an incredible bike? I called Litespeed and spoke to David, he told me that the serial number shows it was made in 1990 and was called "road bike". It doesn't even have a name, poor thing.
Does anyone have any old advertising info from when this bike came out that describes it and why it's so great. I can talk about the aerospace-grade titanium, I can encourage them to ride it for a few days money-back-no-problem. Does anyone know how much this bike cost new? I bought it 10 years ago from a friend who recently died, so he doesn't have any answers.
A great ride even though it's old and as far as I can tell it's in perfect shape, but I don't know anything about bikes, I just ride daily for exercise and have taken it in for service about every year. I would love to know how much a bike comparable to my Litespeed if bought new would cost. Anything that I can put in my flyer that would convince someone to buy it would be of great help.
I was thinking of asking USD$700 for it - does that sound about right? That was based on what a guy at a bike shop suggested.
Thank you for any feedback,
Possumbean
UPDATE: I called Litespeed again, Chris told me at first that there was no way this was a litespeed, that someone just put decals on it because the serial number was not in the "right" place. I insisted that he talk to David, then he came back and said that it was a Litespeed and that it was not a "road bike" but a mountain bike. That makes a lot more sense to me. But the company has no records of what they sold bikes like mine for back then, Chris knows of no comparable bike that they made in the 1990's -that has a real name, to compare it to. I used to think they were a great company, now I'm not too sure. I can't imagine not keeping records.
