really nice

Now thats really nice 8)
Everything looks just right, nothing out of place, set off with a nicely detailed gruppo. Photos are brilliant and show it off really well. I especially like the shot of the cassette, dont know why that one in particular grabbed me but it did.
More info please, would be great to know a bit more of its story here with these pics.
If it rides as well as it looks then you must be a very happy man.

Fully agree with Jamie - lovely to see nice Suntour kit for a change.

Your signature line is as impressive as the bike - I bet your insurance company thinks you've got a garage full of hi-fi equipment.

Thankfully I was not drinking something when I read this comment because it would surely be coming out of my nose right about now as I'm laughing my arse off here.

Especially funny since I had actually made this gag image the day before...

Thank you, Jamie.

It is actually one of the "rougher" bikes in my collection in terms of the starting condition. When I purchased it (via Craigslist near Indianapolis. IN) it was filthy and had numerous scratches and what not. I paid $250 USD for the bike and was lucky enough to have my friend's sister living right in that area so she picked up the bike and brought it to Minneapolis for me during her next visit. I was very lucky as I had been trying to buy one of these Team Japans since 2004. As it would turn out my luck would get better.

My friend called me and told me that the bike had arrived at his place and that the owner sent along some extra parts. Hmmm... ok? When I actually got the bike I was a bit dismayed to see that the set of Araya Aero clinchers that were on it had actually been drilled out to accommodate schrader valves rather than presta. ARGH! But just then my buddy pulled out an extra set of wheels... literally NOS looking Araya Aero tubulars also with Superbe Pro hubs etc! Problem solved!

On top of that, he also had given me some NOS brake hoods, chain rings and down tube shifters. Not a half bad deal in the end.

This was the only Suntour Superbe Pro bicycle that Panasonic ever officially offered here in the U.S. and I've always wanted one since I saw one new in the catalog in 1986. It is actually the 3rd model down from the top following the Team Europe I (Campy Record equipped) and the Team America (Dura Ace equipped).

Nice

Hi
That sounds like you scored a great buy, even better with the extras :)
The brake hoods do look smart and as mentioned above it is really nice to see the whole Superbe gruppo, it shows that there are/were other real quality manufacturers with a great eye for aesthetics as well as detail besides the big two.
I would be really interested to read about the others as well, stick em in readers rides, fill my head with Panasonic :)
Thanks
Jamie

Great build and a cool cool bike. Sounds like it was a nice find in the end. Craigslists can be a source of surprises in both directions!

That bike is so fast. I bet it rides circles around everything Italian :)

Are all Team Japan bikes Columbus Tretubi???

Hey Melvin, good to see ya!

Here in the U.S. we only got the Team Japan for one year, 1986. After that it was renamed the Team National but it did retain the same tubing for construction as well as the Suntour Superbe Pro components.
