:o who me???

pm coming shortly.

No photos? What's the story on that bike? It sounded interesting.

Hey Michael

Some things that weren't in the ad:
Original Shimano 600 headset...a really cool design..like a flower
Magura brake levers with hoods
Suntour XC-II pedals
original Suntour XC thumbies
deerhead f/r derailleurs
Avocet Criterion leather saddle
front fork appears to be a fcc fb type

the frame itself looks identical to my 85 fat chance- nothing too special, just with way better paint/decals. Was tempted to walk away, but thought it would make a good replacement for my 85 without a whole lot of work. Put the 85 up for sale.

It's always interesting when an original owner/city dweller puts up his Fat for sale at an original price. The owner was going to give it away, but made an online search, which led to the discovery that people actually collect these things, though he wonders how anyone can be a bike collector living in NYC...I laughed

good guy; I was happy to pay his asking price :)

Interesting...I spoke with that guy and he was nice but sort of clueless as to what he really had there...He couldn't tell me if he had a box crown or uni-crown fork and the bike was in a bike room so he couldn't answer any specific questions, like you have provided way more info than he ever could have about the parts and I just didn't have the time to get across town to check it out...you beat me to it! 8)

8) probably the first time I've best you to one, thanks. He had said two guys were very interested; guess that was you and kokies...who knew

Yes, it was in the bke room with a million other bikes, but one of the neater bike rooms I"Ve been in. He definitely didn't know anything about the bike, other than it was expensive when he bought it, and he had only ever upgraded the tires, (he went on at length about them), and the seatpost, (swapped it out for a longer post- a tall cool one sakae). he needed the bike spot for his new bike, so this one had to go. Bike spots, like garage spots, are at a premium here in the city, apparently. Someone asked him if he was giving up his spot on the way out. He replied, "no way!"

That's a good score actually and yes you beat me to it, but what size is it, that's another thing that he didn't know...I would've talked him down to like $250 if it was my size and then waved the cash at him by saying "well it's not all original"...I actually do not have a bike spot in my own building, not that I would leave any of my bikes hanging in a semi-public bike room, there are no bike spots available in my building and they are a premium as space for anything is in NYC.

Thanks...yeah, I suck at the whole haggling thing; though he did have two very interested buyers besides me, and I was only the first one to come in person...so he probably would've held out for his price, only going lower if a couple of us had passed it up... so perhaps you could've had it for $250 if I had passed. Us fat collectors should work together on a couple of these, hehe.

Yes, crazy about the bike rooms and space. Oh, and this Fat is a large, just from the feel and look of it, but I'll take actual measurements to be sure.

Take some photos too!
