1985 Fat City Cycles Fat Chance

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of this from the lucky new owner, whoever that may be! I'd love a proper old Fat one day... & I don't believe in garage queens either!

Oops!! I'd forgotton all about this and accidently deleted your PM thinking 'Fat Chance? what Fat Chance??'

I built this when I worked as service mgr. at Helen's Cycles(Santa Monica,Ca.) for a friend. He now wants me to find it a good home(but not necessarily a rich one...). It's black, all original(the biopace chainrings are here..somewhere).It has a Salsa stem, and a DeoreXT group. Never crashed, rarely ridden offroad. Scratched aplenty, but no rust. I'll pack it and ship it to the right person. Any takers?

Ok, it's £250 and open to Al, Martin, pete=mmc, legrandefromage or daj to provide the best/most honest reason why you should have it (assuming you still want it of course)

I don't know but it seems like the Evilbay ways of selling are coming closer to home. (US sales only available for US)

Selling an item that is only available to a select group of people sounds a little discriminating to me, IMHO.

I wouldn't worry, it's not anything like that. The original post was put up a while back and a number of us expressed interest but where waiting on a price and photos and the mods locked the thread due to lack of price. When the price was popped on the thread reappeared and the seller is kindly offering the bike to the guys who originally posted before the thread was locked down.

Nothing untoward or evil, more of a standard 'dibs' thing. Having had a mail from the seller he is an honest and well meaning guy who wants to spread a bit of Karma rather than go down the ebay route and have this bike end up as a garage queen in a collection somewhere. He's even added a nice stipulation about wanting the bike to go to the right home rather than the guy with the wallet (bit like if you were having to rehome a favourite dog!) :D

Yep, Pete's nailed it there - I had a few e-mails back and forth with Dean and he seems a very genuine chap who is mostly concerned that the bike goes to someone who will appreciate it rather than getting the top price. After some though Dean decided on a price (and £250 certainly sounds very reasonable) and that he preferred to offer it up first to those who had originally expressed interest. I thought it was a really generous offer and suggestion.

Perhaps if none of the initial few remains interested or comes up with a suitable rationale of why they should have it then it'll be offered more widely?
