1984 Stumpjumper

Unclejack

Retrobike Rider
First off thanks to all parties involved in getting this up to me from the south to yorkshire. The frame number reads as Nov 83 so dont know if that makes it an 83 or 84- you decide. but anyway i've started to clean it and sat it on my spare wheels for some photos.its actually a lot better than i expected and i dare say those cables are original. certainly the conditions of the rims makes me think those blocks probably are. as are grips and saddle. sadly saddle looks like its cattle trucked.all bearings are free and so is seat post.
So for now some photos...

Nice pair you've got there 8)

reckon I've found out who made the specialised branded hubs. pop the dust caps and they are identical to the suntour ones. which is a joy as they run on 6001 bearings and are ace. exactly the same as the Saracens sit on.

both bikes look cracking and I am interested to see how you get on. Just a drop or two of oil and you should be able to save the chain too.

Wow! That is a great find in great condition. It won't take much to get it into very good shape.

Interested to see how the frames of the Specialized and the Saracen compare given that the Saracen was allegedly more or less a direct copy of the Stumpjumper.

A fine pair you have anyway.

And there was me thinking 'That needs a fair bit of work.'!

Still, nice starting point. Love those bi-plane forks. 8)
