1982 Cook Bros. Custom Fillet Brazed

I don't think any Cook Bros. hung around long at the Cove bike shop BITD. Many were ordered for individuals. The rest sold quick from what I remember. I know the original owner of that red Alpine, I can give you his name if you want to PM me. He might know what happened to the original fork. I don't know of any other Alpine that was sold there, it might be the only one. It's the only one I have ever seen in person.

I would love more information - I don’t think I can PM - not enough posts yet - looks like I need 30 in order to use that function. Are you on any of the mtb groups on fb? Or can you PM me - it might let me reply to a PM?

It is a cool thread. Hopefully this will be a welcome addition.

Since I posted the red Alpine my hunt for the original fork was unsuccessful. CBR did sell them separately - so I figure there must be a few floating around out there. I spoke to quite a few people while looking - and at least two of them said I’d probably find a whole CBR Alpine before I find an Alpine fork. They were right. A buddy of mine found this - but the owner would only sell it bundled with his other Cook Bros. stuff - so I ended up with three - 3 bar cruisers - and a handful of CBR parts - more on those another time.

This is a Cook Bros. Racing / Alpine #04 out of less than 30. It was sold in 1983 by Cove Cycles - and is completely original and catalogue stock - right down to the tires and hand grips. It was painted by Cycle Art in San Marcos, CA. - the same place as my red one. It is best described as a ‘garage queen’ as it has almost no signs of wear on it - a little bit on the Magura grips but the Mafac brake pads look like new. It has Cook Bros. hubs laced to gold UKAI 2.125” rims and 2.125” Carlisle tires - which are still soft and supple. Deerhead rear derailleur and a Suntour Alpine front derailleur, Suntour Power Shifters and Magura levers with Terrycable rubber boots and cables. There’s a Sugino AT crank and Suntour BMX pedals with a Cook Bros. bottom bracket. Ok I’ll stop rambling on and post some pics -

Ill have to make two postings as there is only allowance for 10 pics per post -

That's an amazing bike ! and the fact you now have 2 of them is beyond belief. Plus 3 other Cook Bros !!!!
Did you post the photos of your red CBR Alpine on here so others can see that one too. ( I know you sent these to me, but they just have to be shared )

Congrats on these finds !!

Thanks man! I haven’t posted the red Alpine - actually thought I did - but it’s not here - so I will post some pics of it - and the cruisers too. At least two of the cruisers came from Cove as well. Must have been quite the shop back in that era…

Wow 🤩
Chaz at DC is an absolute legend.
Phenomenal collection of Cook Bros cruisers. Always wanted one, finally got close about 10 years ago but a Sweetheart Cycles Moto Cruiser came up at the same time and I couldn’t afford both 🤦‍♂️

As promised I am posting pics of my other Cook Bros. Racing / Alpine. This bike also came from Cove Cycles - these pics are as the bike came to me - except the seat I removed as I couldn’t bear to look at it. It still has all it's original dirt and grime - I have not cleaned it up at all. I will be letting go of this one as I cannot justify having two - especially as there were less than 30 of these made - I won't hoard them. If you are interested send me a DM. Regarding the condition - it has scratches, scrapes and rubs - it does NOT have any dents, cracks, rust or problems of any kind. The decals are in great shape - bright and easily readable. It has the original Cook Bros. bottom bracket - still smooth and buttery. I have lots of period correct parts that could be had as well - I was about to start restoring it when I found the other one. Ok I think that covers most of it - Have a great day.

I understand that completely! I might have opted for the Moto Cruiser myself - have you posted pics of it on here somewhere? I love those bikes!
