1975 Raleigh sbdu 58

Re: Raleigh sbdu 58 (62cm) bought off scrapper!

Got a little job done on the Raleigh today. Removed the anodizing from the scratched brake levers then re shaped and polished them. It's a subtle change but I think they're an improvement on the incorrect 80's levers and make them look a little more like the 70's long reach variant. Popped the repop globe hoods on as well that I got for xmas.

Nice lovely job, so glad you got the record rear mech that was bothering me that suntour one :-) what to do with the paint job..well as its good as it is ride it for a while then get it resprayed is my opinion, but keep the chrome on the forks, the lustre on that Dave Yates finished one is first class I couldn't resist if I had it, keep us posted

Cheers, the plan is to complete the bike and ride it hard(ish) to make sure the frames solid before getting it refinished. I'll deffo be keeping the chrome forks I want it to look as original as possible. :-)

Re: Raleigh sbdu 58 (62cm) bought off scrapper!

Freewheel and chain have just arrived so after a few tweaks I've managed a couple of rides around the block. Shifting seems fine and the record hubs spin as smoothly as I thought they would. So for now the build is done, time to put a few miles on before the breakdown, respray and polish commences. :D

New saddle and record seatpost installed, went out for a 20 mile ride yesterday felt really good, shifted well and didn't feel flexy but smoothed out rough roads nicely. Really pleased with the way it's come together, just the bottom bracket to sort :D :D :D

Coming along really nicely.
I like the patina look, but can imagine it with a fresh paint.
Keep the updates coming.

Thanks to the £65 bin swinnerton and the freebie Holdsworth the Raleigh has had a few period upgrades, a very nice BB, chainset, record pedals and cinelli bar and stem combo from the swinnerton, and a 120mm rear axle off the holdsworth. I also have a virtually mint record headset to install. It really does just need a respray now. :D
