1975 Raleigh sbdu 58

Re: Raleigh sbdu 58 (62cm) bought off scrapper!

There's so little paint left though! I've given it a rub over with fine wire wool and oil to improve the 'texture' and it will remain that way for a while yet. Managed to get some pre wire wool pics uploaded, it's not that red in real life, more like red oxide primer. So what do you think, respray or not?

Lovely old bike. I'd respray it myself, but I get the members that would rather see it kept original. Your bike, your decision.

personally I wouldn't be able to live with it like that I would want to get it looking showroom fresh again. And to me that bike / frame would be worth doing.

That is my dream bike. I am very very green. If you ever consider etc................

I can remember these when I was eleven and traded my purple chopper for a new olympus. Always thought they were special.

Had a white/Blue 65cm SBDU 8806 this year but sold it as it wasn't THE one.

Funnily enough I sold a type 8806 just before I bought this, the money burnt a hole in my pocket, I do believe Maca picked it up for a friend.

Re:

I think it needs a respray too. Dave Yates did a smashing job on mine - decals from HLlloyd...

I'm good Maca, how's the 8806? You've certainly been busy!

Its doing well, he loves it (we all do). I know its become like a drug, 2 mountain bikes, 3 bmx's and 4 racers in now :) but have ran out of room so when the 3 racers are finished its gona be a case of just getting out on them more .................. but I am getting a little addicted to the old clothes now to :)

Re: Raleigh sbdu 58 (62cm) bought off scrapper!

In order to save a few quid I polished up the rims that came with the bike and had them built onto the record hubs at a very reasonable price by Mick Brown at Eastwood, Nottingham. On the lookout for a 6 speed freewheel now ( any recommendations would be welcomed) and I imagine I'll be swapping the tyres for 23s as the 25s are too chunky to my eye ( and the conti sidewalls too dark) and also need shorter valve inner tubes.
