I'm getting a 1970 bike shortly. I don't get on with drop bars so want to experiment with various handlebars from my handlebar mountain. Is there such a thing as a short-ish quill stem with a detachable face plate from about 1970?

Buy a cheap threadless stem and quill adaptor. Experiment with different bars and when you are decided which bars are to be used, buy a period stem to match and set everything up permanently
