1962 Claud Butler Cordon Bleu #14064 FINISHED Pg6

Now then, where was I? Oh yeah wheel building, got distracted for a while there. Best crack on in the morning.

I’ve changed my mind and decided to go with a set of Modele 58 rims rather than the Gentleman’s as these are a few mm wider and hold the 1-1/4” Schwalbe Active Line K-guards more comfortably.

Like this build a lot. I've got a 50s Carlton frame I'm considering painting black and building up with later reliable kit. Watching with interest 👍

Argh!!!! Foiled!
I’ve been saving a set of Black Bluemels Club Specials for this build, which I had bought for a road/path racer which they fitted perfectly. That frames gone now & I thought they’d look great on this build, but alas, the bigger spacing of this frame that is designed for 27” road/touring wheels just doesn’t line up. I could drill a new hole but I’m loath to mess with such a perfect set.
My other option in the loft were a pair of 70’s SKS in blue. Very nice but isn’t doing it for me… back to the drawing board. 70600930-1C88-4545-B85B-68B77419AA40.jpeg A3728D7F-8E9C-413B-AE72-BAE5B6DFE614.jpeg 4E05BC16-378E-406F-B898-5A089C792438.jpeg 594B0A97-6FF5-4506-95B5-A9C4232B039E.jpeg

Never seen that fitting on a rear guard. Would the usual type not cover the hole and sort the problem?
Probably... just rather liked that neat little fitting.

Right, got my hands on a set of black Bluemels Populars. The need some TLC of course. 58677EB7-433D-4013-B99E-C178506D0FF4.jpeg

Wish I'd realised you were looking for some. Umpteen (well, pairs of nos bluemels have just found their way here. Mostly still in original plastic bags. No stays or fixings sadly. Will list in for sale when sorted and photographed.

Now the restoration of the old Bluemels can go on hold for a bit as I’ve taken up Chicky-dee’s offer of a NOS set, well two actually, black & gold, not sure which way to go yet.

Anyway, onto the cabling-up, I’ve been putting off doing the bar-end shifters, not done them before and always wondered how best to get bar tape tucked in and have them fitted as everything seems to need to be done before the wrap? Bit of a chicken & egg thingy… what to do first? I’ll have a play and report back.. p.s. any tips @legrandefromage ? 1CB57A6F-EED2-4ED6-AD81-BAD8CAE6223C.jpeg

Guards arrived in good order, cheers @chickendrumsticks
Wasn’t sure which to use, the Metalic Gold all rounders have a certain bling appeal, but I think it’s too much gold. So I’m going for the plain black popular version. 6B675142-27F2-464B-81FB-50CEB2D3C6CC.jpeg 7C74AF27-C175-4D79-847E-08670EF1A1D3.jpeg BA93A87A-5CBF-4E29-9080-91D4AC561D5E.jpeg D322CA1D-4607-4927-8E04-C9066B795F6A.jpeg
