1960's Norman Bicycle.

Another build for a friend who had bought a Norman Frame off the internet, he had a Norman as his first ever bike and wanted one to add to his collection.
It was just the frame, headset and forks and a shot bottom bracket.
We decided not to get the Frame resprayed and use parts that we had or were contemporary with what we thought the age was. Under the top tube were pump pegs that had brake cable stops and unfortunately one had broken off and left a small pin hole a repair that didn't involve welding was called for.

27" wheels fitted, i had them made up for other bike but they didn't look right. My Friend was happy with the look on the Norman. Also spare pair of Nitto Bars and Brake Levers from the Parts Bin.

The Pump Peg repair, seals the hole without welding, looks better with the Brake Cable in place.

Nice to see a Norman, the larger of the two bike makers from my home town
Who was the other one?
I live near Ashford, would be interesting to know.
Ken James is the other one,he had a frame building and bike shop at the railway station end of Beaver road and who was a lot more recent than Norman, the Norman factory was farther toward Kingsnorth on the Beaver Road and the junction of what's now Norman Road.

Norman closed in 1961 after TI bought them but bikes with the Norman name were still made by Raleigh for a couple of years after this. I think Ken retired maybe 10 or 15 years ago but he was certainly still going in the late 90's and I've still got one of his bikes built around then hanging up in the garage.

I keep thinking I should build a Norman being an Ashford boy originally but haven't yet.
