1960's Bluemels AFA pump seals wanted..

Sun Man 51

Dirt Disciple
Can anybody please point me in the right direction for seals to refurb my 1960's Bluemels pump ? I've looked in all the usual places, FleaBay etc, but nothing's forthcoming. I bought it when I was a lad, so I'd really like to get it working to compliment my Sun Snipe Plus bike. Its like the one in the pic below..

Many thanks in anticipation.. 👍

I make my own by using the old seal as a template .Cut round it on top off a piece of leather.
I use this sort .

Thanks ever so much for that 'bagpuss'.. I appreciate it.

In the end, and quite by accident, I came across sellers on Ebay who were selling the very thing I was after for very little money. However, after writing to one of them, I had a very honest reply, saying my pump almost certainly was fitted with a soft 7/8"rubber washer, not leather. Those I've located.. a pack of ten.. so I'm fit for life.. ha ha.. :)

My pump fitting is the one in the photo below.. a rubber washer stretched over the taper should do the job I think..

How did you get on with those washers? I have the same pump with a disintegrated washer. I've tried the 7/8" tap washer (too small) and a 1" tap washer (too big), and both appear to be too thick anyway. I was thinking the leather cup washer might be the best alternative (not sure what size) but was wondering what you used in the end. Thanks.

Hi John.. sorry to report.. not very well. The tap washers were nowhere near a fit, and the guy with the leather washers had sold the very last washer virtually as I pressed buy. So the pump is just an ornament on the bike at the moment and a cheapo Lidl pump was doing its job.

To be honest.. I've been so tied up with other things the past couple of years that my bikes have taken a back seat I'm afraid. Hopefully a space in time will be found at soon-ish and I'll be able to return to my two wheeled projects.. and finally sort that pump. Was actually thinking of buying some leather and having a go at making some..

There maybe some info here that will help out.. https://www.base-camp.co.uk/Cups .htm

All the best.. Dave.. 👍

I've had a 1980s plastic Bluemels 3 for years, but recently got a BritanniAlloy Grand Prix for my 1953 Holdsworth.
Uses leather cup washers which were well knackered.

(I removed the multicolour rings with a hot air gun)

Popped in to Belton and Slade - Wandsworth high street https://www.beltonandslade.com/
They had an old cardboard box in the back full of leather cup washers - £1 each.
If you're going past it's a damn fine old fashioned shop.

Fixed for £1 and I splurged on a spare too.
