No photo's but a quick update. For whatever reason, I have four primary bike builds going on right now, so nothing is happening quick. Two mid 80's vintage Ritcheys, a Champion Cruiser converted to a early Mtb and the prewar "C". The goal with the Champion and the "C" is too keep things pre 1981 which is helping keep the part searches for both these builds overlapping. I want to keep the Champion looking fresh and almost new, while the goal with the "C" is to get that authentic, used, funky, Pantina heavy, unique parts all blended together for a synergistic look.

Parts list acquired for the "C" so far (as always, all subject to change on a whim):

Prewar C frame
Tange 1200 fork
Ashtabula stem
VDC cruiser bars
Suntour thumbies
Magura or Diacompe brake levers (hmm).
Schwinn forebrake drum brakes front and rear.
Ukai blue rims
KKT blue Rat trap pedals
TA cranks
TA Rings
TA BB (spindle length permitting)
Suntour Cyclone Front Der.

Still slow track seeking (read looking for the right price):

Suntour Winner Freewheel
Sutour Cyclone rear der.
American to Euro BB adaptor.
? tires
Brooks B72 Saddle.
Aluminum solid rod post.
? grips

One thing about klunker builds is each part becomes a vintage labor of love. No going out and buying a donor bike to snag most of the parts from, They won't fit, or a new complete groupset like you would if it was new frame. Its a lot of fun trying to get it all to fit. Hats off to the boys from MDC who first determined what would be good to graft on.

Time flies when you are having fun. Can't believe I started this thread over a year ago. I finished my Drop bar Ritchey build and started focusing on the Champion Cruiser project. Still playing second fiddle to that build, the prewar "C" parts (sloppy seconds from the Champion) are starting to come together. Aaron just started his prewar Schwinn, got talkin about drum brakes and such and it motivated me to assess things over here. Picked up a pound of Oxalic Acid Crystals on Monday. I figured it was about time to see what's under all the rust on these drums. I spent a little time this week breaking down the old steel Schwinn tandem wheels (I like old klunkers, but draw my line at steel wheels. Give me some aluminum Ukai's) to get to the hubs in the middle. Almost ready for a dip, I need to gather up all my other rusty stuff and brew things on Sunday. JWesty set me up with a set of Blue 26 x 2.125 Ukais a year or so ago. The rims have been waiting patiently for this build. Let's see what I have for new photo's:

Nice before photo. Lets see what the OA does to that rust:

Emma kept me company while I broke down the wheels. Complete front and rear set of Union hubs off an early 50's Schwinn Town and Country Tandem. I also picked up a partial front Union drum at a swap meet last winter (missing axle but better chrome):

The early Schwinns did come in different frame sizes. This one is the larger size and will have the most opportunity fitting my 6" 3" frame:

Not too many pics of the parts yet. I do have a few neat goodies already stashed away (TA, Suntour, Tange, KKT, VDC etc). I will have to gather a few more pics......

Cheers,
T

That would work great but I need enough for three posts. the DX, C, and one more in reserve for....
When JWESTY got the 7/8 rod and turned it down to 13/16 he kinda raised the bar for the rest of us didn't he? I like his idea of having the last two inches at 7/8 to eliminate the need for a spacer......

Hmmmm

Either that or hit Titanium Joe up for a solid titanium post ( think it was about $70 for enough rod to do one long seatpost last time I checked).

I know the vintage SE racing BMX post currently on the DX is way too fragile if not too pretty for my lardass.
