17 Years today

She was sort of famous, not in a good way though. But I really liked Hole, great band live. An old mate was in TJ's in Newport when Kurt and Courtney met for the first time. It was a mad night by all accounts.

Krist formed Sweet 75 straight after Nirvana, who did one album (I wouldn't bother) and then Eyes Adrift, with ex-Sublime & Meat Puppets. That was a bit better. He's a politician nowadays.

how many of the younger generation know her for anything other than that

She has absolutely no relevance to the younger generation, so it is not really surprising that she is mainly associated with the Architect of Angst.

Kobain is definetely one of those whose life's work has been totally overwhelmed by his legend.

Without the early death who knows what he would have ended up doing.

My feeling is Nirvana's level of visceral splurge was unsustainable, and without complete reinvention as individuals, (best done by splitting the band permanently), they would have descended into parody.

Nirvana did not have legs musically either, as musicians they were much more limited than REM for example, although they are a poor comparison as they were coming from a totally different place, a different generation musically.

There was so much more art in REM.

Nirvana was a band of its time, and thanks to Kobain blowing any chance of escaping that time, will remain so.

Highly influential as they may be.

Kobain's death was probably highly beneficial to their legacy, setting them in a time and place, in a context where their oeuvre may never be tainted by rehashing reunions or collaborations with Snoop Dog or P Diddy Yes He Did, Twice With Onion Relish.

I to agree with i dont find it odd that grohl is now famous he was in demand after what happened and for a brief time went to play drums for tom petty and was offered a full time post playing with petty but declined and although i to like Petty i am glad he decided to refuse and eventually went on to the foo's

the link below is of him bashing drums with petty

and an interview from Grohl and Krist on there days in Nirvana not that old an interview aswell

krist also plays on one of the new foo's albums tracks

nirvana are the most influential band to me. cant believe its 17 years.

dave grohl is an immense musician, one of the b-sides on the heart shaped box single is his. kurt even allowed him to sing it, he was a good singer even then. his drumming on qotsa's songs for the deaf is some of the hardest i've heard.

Their stuff was a little too pop for me (the stuff after Steve Albini got ahold of them was a bit better). There were much better bands coming out of the PNW at that time. TAD, the Melvins, Mudhoney, Alice in Chains......

alice in chains' unplugged album was better than nirvana's, but i love the progression in sound of the nirvana albums.

mudhoney where sweet, as were teenage labottomy.

Kurt was doomed from the start, his demons started long before nirvana, its a real shame as i'm sure im not the only one who would have loved ot have gone back to the beginning and wanted to speak to him to understand the real him, just like Layne Stayley, both on the road to burn, and nothign couldnt have stopped them from what they did

remember this very well, liked nirvana from day 1,shame his exit from this life came early. anoyed me how many people loved them, after hed died  . to maybe sound harsh, if hed stayed it could have gone both ways, continued to be creative and kinda a voice of/for a generation or just disappeared from the limelight . its a sad statement but him dying has helped forge them as legends. the foos are good but will never be the music i grew up being inspired by.

rip dude :(
