125cc motorbike tuning questions

There are 144 kits from Power Roll etc. that bump the hp. You can also put 185 cylinder/head on them, but the cases need hogging. Check the TL 125 forums. There's lots of guys doing mods to them to get a bit more grunt out of them.

i would suggest a tiny air filter, used to use vent filter on my 125, and shed as much weight off the bike as poss.

thanks all round. Have to keep it 125 to be legal (on L-plates). Air filter sounds good. May ditch rear foot pegs and mounts (can't use them till I have full license.)

@ Saltyman - Vanvan or Tw125 are good bikes, but they struggle to get above 50mph from what I hear and the thought of a 130 mile trip on one sounds a bit daunting. Quite a low riding position too.

You wouldn't go far wrong with one like mine to be fair if you can find one. They're not very common. What's your budget? Mine cost £600 with 17k on the clock. Good high riding position, looks good, will do 65mph (and a bit more I'm hoping with some legal mods  ), 120mpg if ridden carefully.

yep get rid of all the toot and drop a tooth or two of the rear sprocket. assuming the air box is under the seat, take out the stock filter and just sling a bit of foam (any old k&n panel filter off the bay) over the air intake and drill the air box till it looks like swiss cheese. makes a much nicer sound like this too.

road tires not semi ones..........less drag

oh to previous chap CG125's are great if you don't live in a hilly area. I had a blue 900 hornet and a blue CG 125...........i could wang the CG round tight (downhill ! ) corners faster than the 900 ! very good handling 125 and will pull 2 people( lor shopping, luggage) comfortably and will still handle ok JUST don't expect to go up hill fast !

to find out the sprocket size on the front (it's dark and I can't see it at the moment) which of these figures do I look at? Is it the final reduction which is telling me it's a 50 tooth on the back and 17 on the front?

not sure but 17 on the front sounds big. sure my old 125 (same engine) was an 14 that i swapped for a 13 for a bit better acceleration.

hmmm. Again without checking the actual bike (it's still dark  ), when looking on ebay the only matches for clr125 (and xlr125 - same engine) seem to be 17t. e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280685978374? ... 1438.l2649 (Odd ebay seller that does both sprockets and lingerie I thought  8) )

Unless someone can find different?

one of my mates tried to tune his cg125 a few years ago but gave up after a couple of days , without putting a lot of time & money into it theres not a lot you can do it as theres no one out there who sells off the shelf parts for them :(

i had a yamaha dt125 a few years ago and put a dep/fresco exhaust and a set of race reed valves in it and it went like stink  the same engine can be found in the tzr125

i'd have another dt125 in a heart beat
