What's the difference (other than diameter) of the 11 and 12 tooth lock rings ?

I have a 12 tooth sprocket at the moment (Dura ace) but if I buy an after market lock ring, can I buy the 11 tooth version so it is ‘universal’ ? i.e. it will fit now but still be good for future 11 tooth use ? :?

Cheers,

WD :D

11T LR diameter is so much smaller that it will fall into the hole in the sprocket. So you need a 12T one for your current gearing and will need an 11T one for 11T - as the 12T one will be too wide.

They are a different diameter for a reason ;)

11T hangs over the edge and inside the circumference of a cassette body
12T+ sits outside the circumference of the cassette body, like a normal 'cog'
Hence 11T needs to be smaller, but will be too small as mentioned above to hold the 12+ tooth on.

Unless somebody designs the 12T in the style of the 11T 'Compact' fixing.
