10 speed badged components

Hi, I know not so retro, but will rear mechs badged as 10 speed be ok over 9 speed.
Been using 5, 6, 7 & 8 gears over the years and apart from my 7400 Dura Ace rear mech being a bit of a case by itself, I've found it was the lever that determined the movement of the rear mech.

I'm asssuming a 10 speed rear mech (say 105) will work fine and dandy with a 9 speed STI shifter.

All advice gladly accepted.

bad form answering your own posts, but have just seen some info regarding 9/10 speed compatability.

I used 10 speed dura ace mechs with 9 speed shifters/cassette and it was harder to set up but worked OK. not as good as when I moved to full 10 though. I think the chain being a nadgers wider in 9 speed was the niggle.

The 10 speed rear mech will be fine matched with 9 speed STI gear shifters. 9 & 10 speed jockey wheels are identical. The ampunt of cable "pull" on 6, 7, 8 9 & 10 speed gear levers is identical, in Shimano's case it's 1:2 ratio cable pull. The rear mechs parallelogram only has to move up and down from cable pull, thats it's only job. All you need to do is set the rear mechs limit screws.

The only problem would be if you mixed and match a SRAM rear mech with Shimano gear shifters (and vice versa), because SRAMS cable pull is different, it's 1:1. That wouldn't work.
