1" xt headset bearings-where to buy?

Any1 know where to get some new cartridge bearings for a 1" xt headset?

XT headsets don't take cartridge bearings.

later XT ones did take cartridges. I sold a 1" one that had sealed bearing assembly. Or at least it looked that way.

Yeah it's defo a 1 " threaded xt headset Cira. 1995/6 and there's defo some cartridge bearings in there and there pretty rough so some new 1's would be good

I wondered whether the bearings from he 1" road headsets would fit they certainly lookthe same but does anyone no if they fit for sure?

After much frantic looking through old Shimano parts lists, I can tell you that, XT Headsets went Cartridge (and silver) in 1994 and the part number for 1" bearings is :- 787 9803.
The same bearings were used in LX (MTB) and Ultegra (road) head sets although you can use STX (part number :- 78V 9803) but not the same quality. As far as I can make out 105 was always loose ball (all be it in a cage).

First headset to "go" cartridge was LX, followed by XT and STX

Road groupsets down to 105 all got cartridge bearings soon after.

The part numBer was very helpful thanks 4 that. Actually finding somewhere with it in stock is proving difficult though
