1 x 9 - Why?

I'm running 36 x 11-27....just about perfect for me...nothing I can't climb (yet) but could do with a bit less spin on the flat (road).

i would have been running 36 x 11-23 had the cassette worked properly
even then though i think i wouldve liked a smaller small cog
which leads me to, whats the smallest small cog you can get for an mtb type cassette?

I've got 36-14,15,16,17,19,21 for the other halfs hahanna . Just need to get some long grub screws to limit the mech for the 6 sprockets .
