1" threadless headset for Kona?

Is there any 1" threadless headset that can be fitted on 1991 Kona Lavadome frame?

Any 1" threadless will fit, all down to whether you want period correct, in which case it's threaded Kona Impact only, otherwise go for King, diacompe or whatever you fancy!

I would like to buy the new headset stuff, so not after the old Kona headset, Chris King is too expensive, cheapest for 1" threadless is £85 by 'chainreactioncycles' quite like this BBB headset here (see pic) and wondered if that fit on the 1991 Kona Lavadome frame?

It's very difficult to get 1" ahead stem in here, can anyone give me any pointers to find them any bike shops or internet please? I am after black matte finish.

Personally I'd fork out around £45 and buy a Campagnolo Record one. It has external grease ports so you can grease the thing without removing the forks. Quality is fantastic and it lasts ages.

I know somebody who has a good stock of 1" Shimano XT threaded headsets that can be converted to ahead with an Mart converter, but they are silver.

Any 1" headset should fit your frame. You don't need to spend big money - bling-junkies might sneer, but this is an alloy headset with replaceable cartridge bearings for £21.

They also have a Cane Creek in 1" for £20.

you can occasionally find 1" stems on eBay, but I think most people would use a 1 1/8 with a shim - I know you said your LBS advised you not to, but IMO if they're so risk-averse that they think a shim is 'dangerous' they should have advised you not to ride a bike at all.

Thanks Anthony, you are a diamond and giving me more confident about buying 1" threadless headset, I quite fancy the Cane Creek one, I personally would like to use 1" ahead stem for safety reasons so I can have peace of mind there. Cheers for your help

Having never had one, i can't be 100% sure. However i think they are 1 1/8". The 1991 Lava Dome about to finish on eBay is also listed as specifically having a 1 1/8", i recognise the username and think it may be somebody from here. Anyway, the auction is well listed and i believe that his description is correct...
