1" steerer to 1 1/8" stem

Not sure if this warrants a flaming, but being a newbie, I'll chance my arm.

I have a 1995 Bontrager Race will mostly original equipment. Being a 1" steerer I'm finding it kind of limits choices for replacement stems and I wonder whether anyone has an opinion on the reducers for 1 1/8" stem so that they can fit a 1" steerer.

Also wondering if anyone is riding a Bonty with riser bars? I have Titec ones with a 5 degree bend and feel I could do with something a little higher.

Sorry, forgot the essentials! Ahead. Current Control Tech stem is sat on a Chris King headset.

I have only quill 1" to 1&1/8 ahead conversion. I know, it's verid thing. I'm pretty sure there were shims from 1&1/8 stem to 1" steerer. Try goggle it or search Ebay. If no joy, make a shim, it should be dead easy. Try find any metalworker around, he'll machine one at low costs.

I have just fitted a shim to make a 1" steerer into a 1 1/8" and it works fine. Cost £3.99 and it's made by Mart. It just slips over the existing steerer and let's you fit pretty much any 1 1/8" ahead stem.

Buy a seatpost shim the correct size and cut it down.....job done
