hi
most are probably aware there are two sizes of 1" quill stems.
the 22.2mm and the 21.0mm, has any one used the smaller
in the larger. I've mounted one this way and when tightened
seems to be secure. other than a tiny noticeable movement
from front to back when you work it. I suppose a bit of the
old pop can shim would take up that slack too.
would like to hear from anyone who's done this.
thanks
roy

I had a 21.1mm mounted in a 22.2 fork for some time, with a coke can shim. This was not used for any extreme cross-country action though, and I have now swapped it for a correct stem. With the correct size shim, I can't see any major harm as long as you don't plan on riding half-pipes etc.... :D

The owner of this bike has pop can shimmed the quill. The bike has done hundreds of miles on some of England's toughest moorland. No trouble at all.

22.2-21.1mm

will see what it looks like. not sure yet.
