Im looking for a 1 1/4" Syncros (or similar nice quality) quill stem in silver preferably not too long with a slight rise but will consider all offers

"1-1/8" quills are actually 1" or 25.4 in diameter. This is a common size to shim up from for seatposts. Think USE likely makes these.

Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SeatPost-Shims- ... 0653208002

has a lip to sit on top and you can cut it down if you have a short steerer.

I have some nice silver syncros stem in 1-1/8"

err not sure
Im really confused !!

something to do with these numbers.. :)

"1 1/4" steerer tube = 1 1/4" (31.8mm) OD, 1 1/8" (28.6mm) ID & stem quill OD to fit" quote from danson67 on the link

so I m trying to shim the internal diameter of my 1 1/4" steerer tube which is 28.6mm ?

to the outside diameter of the 1 1/8" quill stem which is 25.4mm ?

I don't think they sell shims in this size ? not that I can find anyway..

or have I got that completely wrong ?? (probably)

That is a lazy quote what it says is: An 1-1/4" stear tube has an outer diameter of 31.8mm and an inner diameter of 28.6mm. The diameter of the quill stem is equal to the inner diameter of 28.6mm.

Correct.

steer tube OD.................Steer Tube ID & quill stem diameter
1-1/4"..........................................28.6mm
1-1/8"..........................................25.4mm
1"................................................22.2mm

okay yep got ya.. :)
apologies I think I got muddled up with the link to the shim you posted and the one in the other link, or maybe just because im an Idiot and it took me about 6 times to read both threads and understand them.

So that shim is the right size its just a question of it being long enough to work with the wedge on the stem.... do you think it will work ?

I would still prefur the correct size stem as I wouldn't have to buy a shim, out of interest what rise/length is your syncros stem ? what condition is it in ? and how much do you want for it ?

The one in the link should be long enough. It's longer than the quill on a vintage control tech stem I happen to have sitting at my desk. I have not done this shimming myself but others who have done it said it worked a treat.

I have a very nice NOS (but with some shop wear) 140mm 0 degree I am asking $25 for. Air mail to UK is $19, surface $11. I could do $40 US shipped by air. .... that's what 24 GBP shipped. I have a 150mm too, cheaper, but longer and the finish is not so nice. The 140 looks better in real life than in the photo.
