Tyres finally arrived and all done.
My owned from new C-16R, pride and joy as a teenager, languished in various garages for 20 years and finally recommissioned.
Before and after photos are a bit of a spot the difference, it’s never had a hard life and been well stored but somehow still got a bit carried away getting up and running again.
Originally STX-RC throughout with the F7 fork. Pace RC35 MXCD added in ‘96 and various bits of XT added in the next year or two. Not sure why I changed the rear wheel from the original, probably to get that elusive 8th speed.
Also not sure why I ordered from new with purple decals and then put loads of red bits on but hey, anything anodised is a win.
Forks were serviced by Pace last year when I had a false start.
Recommissioned now with a lot of cleaning and polishing, new decals (Gil), all new cabling, new v brake pipes, new tubes and tyres, sorted the wobbly cassette it had for years, new saddle (thought the Enduro had lost the padding, turns out it’s me that’s lost it but still like the new one). Seemed a shame to remove the 90s magazine freebie decals but probably looks better.
I never had skin walls on back in the day it but fancied the smokes, ordered from bike-components.de but then went out of stock and took a few months. Ordered some Smart Sams in the meantime from bike inn, really good on trails but still had to wait for the panaracers for the ‘done’ pic
Really enjoyed sorting it out and now on the mean trails of East London with the wife and daughter. Seen a few others recently about to do the same with their C-16s, get stuck in!
