Wanted Compact/sub-compact double chainset and/or 14-28 six-speed freewheel to be fitted to early 80's (1982?) Raleigh Richmond

Sorry the title of this thread should be Raleigh Richmond not Raleigh Record. Have edited the thread title accordingly.....

Thanks @jim haseltine. Good to know 🧐. But I think I could live with that :)

Wanted Compact/sub-compact double chainset and/or 14-28 six-speed freewheel to be fitted to early 80's (1982?) Raleigh Richmond

@walkmanman that's sounds great. What would the sizes of the chainrings on the Stronglight 99 be? A front derailleur similar to the Suntour Compe 5 would be OK as a long as it has a cable stop as per @pigman's comment ... As for the shifters, you can see the original stem-mounted shifter on...

Early 80s Raleigh Tourer model ID (Record??) and options for period-/original spec-correct "downgearing"

Thanks all! Just catching up with the posts from over the weekend now. Some very helpful info there esp. the info from ID-ing it not to be a 531 frame and the tip on the front derailleur cable guide and possible Raleigh-branded front derailleur from @vcballbat and on the SR cranks from @Mark...

Wanted Compact/sub-compact double chainset and/or 14-28 six-speed freewheel to be fitted to early 80's (1982?) Raleigh Richmond

Hello, As suggested by @KermitGKona88 putting feelers out there to see if anybody on here might have 1) a compact/sub-compact double chainset and/or 2) 14-28 six-speed freewheel (preferably Suntour as the rear derailleur is a Suntour VX; should be a screw-on freewheel and the rear hub has been...

Early 80s Raleigh Tourer model ID (Record??) and options for period-/original spec-correct "downgearing"

😂.. Good one! Now who'd have thought of that!! 🐸☘️ Thanks for advice on the Wanted ad too! I need to familiarise myself a bit more with how things work on here and settle on a more concrete idea of what I actually need. Then I can perhaps put something like that together...

    1986 Carlton Carrera 531c

Just in case you are still looking for a scan of a Carlton catalogue with the Carrera (though it's from 1979 so considerably earlier than your model) , I actually just stumbled upon one here (pdf also attached) having been pointed towards the Isca 407 saddle by @KermitGKona88 in my first post to...

Early 80s Raleigh Tourer model ID (Record??) and options for period-/original spec-correct "downgearing"

Yes actually looking at the pics of various Richmonds I could find online quite a few of them seem to have those same flat "North Road" bars with the stem mounted lever and cottered Thun single crankset at the front which on reflection makes me think they must have been some kind of standard...

Early 80s Raleigh Tourer model ID (Record??) and options for period-/original spec-correct "downgearing"

Thanks 👍👍👍 @KermitGKona88. A quick look at some pics of Raleigh Richmonds online makes me think that's pretty spot on. (And the year would be 1982?? Also any idea where I might find an original catalogue/specs for the Richmond?) The decals on the downtube and the seat tube match and this one...

Early 80s Raleigh Tourer model ID (Record??) and options for period-/original spec-correct "downgearing"

Thanks @jim haseltine and @non-fixie for your helpful replies! I think that's very probably more or less what happened. As I recall, the bike has been in that configuration since he purchased it from Leedhams of Leicester in the early 1980s, as is confirmed by a shop sticker on the frame...

Early 80s Raleigh Tourer model ID (Record??) and options for period-/original spec-correct "downgearing"

Hello, I am new to the Forums here but am hoping this is the right place to post as I am going over to Ireland in September and hoping to do some renovation/modification work on my Dad's old early 1980s Raleigh tourer to make it more rideable on the beautiful but very undulating and often...
